As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, the College of Education surprised three local alumni educators with a $1,000 check. The first surprise took place at Shady Grove Middle School, where social studies teacher Vassiliki Key was recognized during a school-wide pep rally.

Key expressed her gratitude and affirmed her passion for teaching during an interview with WTOP: “It’s amazing, and to see [my students] cheering me on as I came down to get it. I just felt full of love, and I’m just going to continue to do what I do, working with them, and learning from them."

Dean Kimberly Griffin, who presented the check and was joined by an entourage of EdTerps and Testudo, added: “Our college is truly committed to transforming education for good, and Ms. Key is a perfect example of that mission in action.”
